How to deep clean leather couches
We love leather couches just as much as the next person. However, we know that sometimes they can become stained and turn into something that needs attention. They are durable and are actually easy to maintain. In this blog, we share the best way to clean your leather couches that ensures their rich color and texture stay the same for many years!
Tools:
Leather can be really sensitive, which means that picking the right tools for this job is essential to avoid damaging the material. We recommend staying away from hash cleaners, polish, and any products that aren’t meant for leather such as pre-moistened wipes. A great tip to ensure you’re buying a gentle and effective cleaner is to read the reviews online!
Vacuum (and brush attachment)
Microfiber cloth
Small bucket
Vinegar
Steps:
Once you have gathered all of the supplies, it’s time to put them in action!
First, vacuum any loose dust and debris on the couch using the soft brush attachment if you have one. The brush head allows you to get into each corner of the couch while being very gentle and not scratching the leather.
Second, use a dry microfiber cloth to remove any dust you may have missed.
Third, while wiping down the couch, make a mental note of where any dark spots, stains, or flakes are occurring. These spots require special attention to be removed.
Fourth, To start cleaning the couch, mix a vinegar and water solution using equal parts of each.
Fifth, dip the cloth into the solution. Then, wring out the cloth so that it is only damp.
Sixth, wipe the damp cloth across the leather in long, smooth strokes. Rinse the cloth every few swipes to ensure you’re getting rid of the dirt and not spreading it.
When finished, use a dry microfiber cloth to soak up any excess moisture that may be on the leather.
If there is a particular stain that isn’t coming out, it may need extra attention. Another solution that is possible to use is equal parts lemon juice and cream of tartar. Use the paste on the dark spots by spreading it on gently. Then wait ten minutes. Using a damp cloth, wipe away the paste and dry the spots to get rid of excess moisture. If this won’t do the trick, you may want to consider calling a professional who can clean the leather with high-quality solutions.
We hope that this was helpful! And we hope that this makes leather couches a little less intimidating.
